ACT Government & Assembly Library

The ACT Government & Assembly Library serves Members and staff of the ACT Legislative Assembly and staff of the ACT Public Service.

History

The ACT Government & Assembly Library relocated to the Legislative Assembly Building at the beginning of 1994.

The Library’s collection has been built over many years as a Commonwealth Government Departmental Library. Its previous titles include Department of the Interior, Department of the Capital Territory, Department of Territories and ACT Administration.

Following the introduction of self-government to the Australian Capital Territory in May 1989, the Library’s clientele became the Members and staff of the ACT Legislative Assembly as well as staff of the ACT Public Service.

Role

The ACT Government & Assembly Library provides research and information services to its clients. It maintains a comprehensive record of the activities of the ACT Legislative Assembly and the ACT Government. The collection is a substantial resource for use in researching the history, policies and administration of the government of the Australian Capital Territory. The Library facilitates government research and the decision-making processes of its clients.
